Women outnumber men in the US by 4.7 million, but we are grossly underrepresented in Congress, where decisions are being made that impact our business potential, health and well-being, and our planet.
To focus only on "success" appears to me to be akin to having tunnel vision. CEOs on Wall Street have focused on personal success, and we have seen the tragic results in 2008-2009.
Activism is needed to impact policy and open opportunities for women, and women have to take the lead by using their purchasing power (which by all statistics is 83%) to impact the economy and help the disenfranchised via philanthropy.
I believe women's only sites are self-defeating because intelligent men are needed to assist and advance the causes that are near and dear to our heart. That is why men are included in our directory. When the men's directory is grown to ten people it will be developed into The New US Man which will be directly linked to The New US Woman with complementary information.
I began my quest with a modest goal to help females entrepreneurs in my own state of Tennessee who have been limited by closed (password protected) online directories and printed annual guides distributed to "members only." I designed The New Tennessee Woman to be OPEN and accessible in November 2007 and launched in January 2008. (The exclusivity mindset is a terribly hard thing to change, but I firmly believe we are better off when we are inclusive rather than exclusive.) In January 2009, I launched The New US Woman.
Philanthropy sites have to this point remained separate from activism sites, and activism sites have to this point remained separate from business sites. But the truth is...when all three are combined, and what you do reflects what you believe in and the things you finance, the trinity becomes a powerful force for good. Separate, each is ineffectual.
Achieving personal success by the world's current standards pales in comparison to the higher goal of creating a radically better blueprint for our nation! And, the time is surely now.
I initially set out to create a simple OPEN network and directory for US entrepreneurs. I ended up creating a vehicle to modify public policy and effect change.
Come be a part of our global significance movement!
